Frequently Asked Questions

How much will Counselling cost?

Sessions are £60 for 50 mins and are payable in advance by bank transfer.  Sessions can be either paid on a week by week basis or booked as a block of sessions.

I offer  concession rates to trainee counsellors - please contact me for details.

How do I make an appointment?

You are welcome to call or email me to arrange an appointment.  If you leave a voicemail message or you email me, then I will aim to get back to you within 24 hours (Monday to Friday).

We can then arrange for an initial telephone conversation which is free of charge and usually takes about 15-20 minutes.  In this call we can discuss what has bought you to seek counselling, what you would like to gain from counselling and I will describe the way I work.  This will enable you to make an informed decision about whether you would like to book a session.

How does online counselling work?

Online counselling takes place on Zoom.  If you would prefer to use a different online platform (such as WhatsApp or Skype) then please let me know and we can have a discussion about this.

For Zoom sessions, you will need to download Zoom and a headset will be helpful, but this is not essential.

I will email a Zoom invite to you and you can click on the link at the session time. It's is helpful log in 5 minutes before the session to check that audio and camera work.

If you have any problems, that's ok - just send me an email and we can work together to solve the problem.  If the problem can't be resolved the we can discuss other options such as using a different online platform, or having the session over the telephone, .

It is important that you find a private and undisturbed space for the session.  Ensuring that you cannot be overheard, will mean that it will be easier to engage in the session.  I would also suggest you make sure you are sitting comfortably and have minimal distractions (e.g. phones / TV) and most people prefer to have their device hands-free, if possible.

How does telephone counselling work?

If we arrange a telephone session then I will call you at the agreed time.

As with online counselling, it is important that are in a quiet, confidential and undisturbed place for the session, so that you are able to fully engage.  Being comfortable, without distractions can also be very helpful.

Is Counselling confidential?

What you say in counselling is confidential and what is discussed stays between us.  however, there are a few exceptions to this, which I will discuss with you in our first session.

Please refer to the Privacy Statement so that you can understand how your personal data will be kept confidential.

Do you offer evening sessions?

I have offer sessions within the following times:

Monday to Wednesday - 5pm - 7pm

Thursday - 9am to 7pm

Friday - 9am to 2pm

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you have is completely up to you.

Most people find it helpful to start with 6 sessions and then review it and take it from there, but this is up to you and we can discuss this in the initial telephone and review as we go along.

What will happen during my counselling sessions?

The aim of our sessions is to help you better understand what is going on for you and to help you find a way forward that is right for you.  For some people this may been finding a solution to a problem, for others it is making a difficult decision and for someit is about coming to terms and accepting something that feels out of your control.  During the sessions we will always go at your pace.  You decide what you would like to talk about and I will there to help and support you.
